The Egyptian computer emergency readiness team (EG-CERT) founded the honeynet project in 2009. The honeynet project is dedicated to investigating the latest attacks targeting the Egyptian cyberspace. The main objective of this project is to provide information about cyber threats and vulnerabilities that exist on the internet today to government entities, financial sectors, universities, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and others. To achieve this goal, the EG-CERT has started to deploy honeypots (sensors) in these entities and sectors to collect the malwares that targeting the Egyptian cyberspace. The EG-CERT monthly submits a report of descriptive statistics to each entity about the malwares collected from its honeypot. This report provides the information to an entity to understand it is a target, and understand the basic actions that can be taken to mitigate these threats.
